Game Behavior Study

 

Study Name: Game Behavior Study - MTurk

Purpose of this Research: The research aims to understand game play strategies and behaviors. You must be at least 18 years old and have access to an Internet-connected computer to participate.

 

What You Will Be Asked to Do in this Research:

  1. Accept participation in the study by clicking on the button below.
  2. Go to the provided website to answer a short survey about yourself. This will take around 5 minutes to finish.
  3. Learn how to play a game. This will take around 15 minutes to finish.
  4. Take a short quiz on the game instructions. This will take around 5 minutes to finish.
  5. Play the game. This will take around 1.5 hours to finish.
  6. Answer a short survey at the end of the game. This will take around 10 minutes to finish.
  7. At the end of this survey, you will be asked to read a debriefing document about the game and the study. If you do not complete this survey, a debriefing document about the game and the study will be emailed to you.
  8. Your actions during the game will be logged and your game screen will be recorded so we can understand your problem solving strategies.

 

Risks and Discomforts: We do not expect there to be any risks or discomforts.

 

Benefits of the Research and Benefits to You: There will not be any direct benefit to you.

 

Compensation. You will be compensated for your time by payment for completing the surveys and game HIT as $20+(virtually gained points*$1). The maximum virtual points is 5, and thus maximum reward will be $25.

 

Withdrawal from the Study: You can withdraw your participation in the study at any time, for any reason, if you decide. In the event you withdraw from the study, all data associated with your session will be immediately destroyed wherever possible.

 

Confidentiality: All data will be safely stored on a secure server, hosted by our research group. The research data will only be used by research staff to understand and develop behavior models. All your responses will be coded by a unique identifiere rather than your name, and all data are kept confidential. The only individually-identifying data we receive from Mechanical Turk are your unique identifier and your country. Your data are also stored on Mechanical Turk's servers, and the data there are subject to the Amazon Mechanical Turk Privacy Notice and Participation Agreement.

 

Please note that your answers will be kept by a secured server hosted by the research team located in the USA and as such is subject to U.S. laws.
