- Study Description: The purpose of this research study is to investigate how a new computer task is related to how you judge situations. This study is supported by the U.S. Department of Defense.
- What may be required from volunteers: Today's study will take approximately 35 minutes to complete. You will be asked to complete two word completion tasks and a short reading activity where you will read and provide your opinion on several hypothetical situations.
- Who is allowed to volunteer: To be eligible to volunteer, you must be an adult between 18 and 39 (inclusive) years old from a primarily English speaking country.
- Possible Risk or Discomfort: Your participation in today’s study may produce mild and temporary boredom.
- Benefits to Participation: You will receive no direct benefit. You may have the satisfaction of knowing you contributed to the understanding of psychological science.
- Confidentiality: All data are considered private and confidential, and observations, responses, and other personal data are coded so that personal identification is not possible from data entered into information systems. During data collection, all data will be stored on secure servers by Volunteerscience.com. After the completion of the data collection period of the study, data will be transferred to secure network drives at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and deleted from volunteerscience.com servers.
- Compensation: You will be compensated up to $5 for completing the study delivered to your MTURK account. You will receive a minimum of $2.50 for completion plus an additional $2.50 if you meet the minimum performance standard of 60% accuracy across the experimental (non-practice) trials. In the event that a website or experiment related technical failure prevents you from completing the study, you may contact the principal investigator, Dr. Jeffrey M Osgood, directly at 301-319-7475 or jeffrey.m.osgood.mil@mail.mil. The principal investigator may either reopen the study or provide payment as appropriate.
- Volunteer Rights: Your participation in this study is completely voluntary. You have the right to not participate in this study or to leave at any time. If you choose to withdraw early from the study, you may request that the information you provided be destroyed and not used.
