Before we start, we would like to get to know you a bit better. Please answer the following questions on your demographic background.

In this task you have been randomly paired with another person, whom we will refer to as the other. This other person is someone you do not know and will remain mutually anonymous. All of your choices are completely confidential. You will be making a series of decisions about allocating resources between you and this other person. For each of the following questions, please indicate the distribution you prefer most by marking the respective position along the midline. You can only make one mark for each question.

Your decisions will yield tokens for both yourself and the other person.

There are no right or wrong answers, this is all about personal preferences. As you can see, your choices will influence both the amount of money you receive as well as the amount of money the other receives.

Problem Statement

We seek to find innovative ideas to reduce water usage and increase access to drinking water. We solicit ideas that address the following concerns related to water conservation:

  • Less than 2% of the Earth’s water supply is fresh water.
  • The average household in developed countries uses 7500 liters every day, the average African household uses 20 liters.
  • One child loses its life every eight seconds due to lack of clean drinking water.
  • By 2025, two thirds of the global population will run short of fresh drinking water.

We ask you to contribute ideas that help

  • individuals, companies, and/or governments to avoid/reduce wasting water;
  • increase access to drinking water;
  • clean up toxins and reuse waste water;
  • harvest rain water.

Evaluation Criteria

Your idea will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Novelty: How novel is the idea?
  • Value: What is the value of this idea if implemented?
  • Feasibility: How easy is it to implement this idea?
  • Elaboration: Is the idea is well elaborated?
