Welcome. You will play several rounds of the "Prisoner's Dilemma" game. For every round of the game you'll be randomly paired with a new partner - meaning you will not play the same player twice. The pool of players you'll be paired with will vary in terms of their demographics (i.e. age, gender, religious beliefs, political orientation).

The scenario you find yourself in is as follows. "You and your partner have been arrested for a robbery and are placed in separate isolation cells, and therefore unable to communicate with one another."
A clever prosecutor makes the following offer to each:
You may choose to confess or remain silent.
If you confess and your accomplice remains silent I will drop all charges against you and use your testimony to ensure that your accomplice does serious time.
Likewise, if your accomplice confesses while you remain silent, they will go free while you do the time.
If you both confess I get two convictions, but I'll see to it that you both get early parole.
If you both remain silent, I'll have to settle for token sentences on firearms possession charges.

Before the last set of questions, we wanted to fill you in on a few more details of the study.
In this study, participants were randomly assigned to play one of three versions of the Prisoner's Dilemma game. The format was the same in each version - the same number of rounds, the same game scenario, and the same game rewards. The only difference between the three versions was how much information players saw about their partner before they played the Prisoner's Dilemma game:
Version A: Neither player received any information about their partner before playing the Prisoner's Dilemma game.
Version B: Both players saw all of their partner's answers to the 10 questions asked at the beginning of the study before then making their Prisoner's Dilemma choice.
Version C: Before playing the 3 rounds of the Prisoner's Dilemma game, all players were told to select which questions responses they wanted displayed about them and their upcoming four partners. This was to enable a symmetric information-sharing feature in this version of the game. Only question responses that have been selected by both players were displayed. Those question responses selected by just one of the players, or selected by neither, were not displayed.
